finally, I've repeated the whole chords structure and played an improvised guitar solo over it now, this was actually a bit of an accident, because I originally planned to continue the lick trading, but during the sound test I've played a guitar solo and I liked so much I've decided to keep it intact.over the new section I've played the piano and the guitar "trading" improvised licks.added a second section with completely different chords - those chords are not that groovy and stable as the original loop, but that's good, because this allows the song to move forward.doubled it up again by playing melody over it first on a piano, than repeating it on a guitar.doubled it up by varying chord extensions every second loop.started with simple 2 chord arpeggios, E minor 7 - F major maj7.Anyway, how I went about doing it - in short, improvisation. Recently I have published a longer form lo-fi style song - search on Soundcloud for Silicon On Sapphire Moon and Mist if you want to hear it, because I can't post a link - though some say it's kind of pushing the boundaries of the genre. Take that stuff, take the lo fi and make it what you feel is right. Once again, listen around to all kinds of music and try to figure out how they deliever a vibe for 6 plus mins. So you want to range with more tense moments and really soft moments. In these sort of songs you want to mess with the dynamics. You want to mix up between highlighting the theme and loesly implying it for sections. Sometimes you may not want to rely on a and b sections and stay on that one idea or recuring theme. Once again allowing some of the small elements to shine though. Extended Outros and codas can be used as ways to keep a gd vibe going or sometimes to take the song to a different place from where it began, almost a thank you for listening. Plus they delay the start of the song adding extra time to the song. So intros are gd for creating the vibe for a long song, almost preparing the listener for the long run, introducing the song elements giving the small parts their chance to shine. Other sections that you can add are extended intros, and outros (codas). Keeping the listener entertained that bit longer. So typically u can add a bridge after the second b section, which can break up the dynamic. You can add time in the song progression for example, sometimes you come up with an a and b section but if you keep on it for to long it can get boring. Listen to some long instrumental songs from other genres study what keeps them going. You going to probably look more towards the dynamics and structure of the song than focusing on just the vibe to carry someone through the song.
